President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that the government cares about micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Jokowi views MSMEs as the driving force for the Indonesian economy. Therefore, MSMEs get special attention from the government.
According to cnbcindonesia.com, Jokowi believes that when MSMEs grow, it means that people’s purchasing power also strengthens. Therefore, he reminded again not to let anyone say the government is not paying attention to MSMEs.
“Don’t let there be opinions that say the government doesn’t pay attention to the micro and small things. (That’s) Very wrong!” said Jokowi in handing over the People’s Business Credit (KUR) Cluster, at the State Palace, Jakarta (19/12/2022).
The government cares for MSMEs has been realized through the consistent distribution of KUR by the national bank since 2007. Jokowi revealed that now KUR enthusiasts through PMN rolled out by the government have reached 13.5 million. This figure has increased significantly compared to 2016 which only reached 500 thousand.
“My target is to enter 2024 to reach above 20 million,” he added.
Jokowi also encouraged the national bank, Himbara, to increase the KUR loan ceiling in the future. He explained, if you succeed in entering PMN Mekaar, you can continue to go up to KUR. This success can be driven by BRI, BNI or other larger credit ceilings.
On the same occasion, the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki explained that the KUR cluster provided funds of IDR 500 million. Funds will be given to MSMEs in groups that are integrated from upstream to downstream and connected with off takers.
“The KUR cluster strengthens MSME partnerships, part of the global industrial supply chain,” said Teten. As of today, IDR 4.8 trillion has been realized in the KUR cluster for 1.39 million debtors.
