Optimistic! MSMEs Drive the Economy to Improve in 6 Months

The growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will drive the economy to improve. This fact was obtained from the research results of PT Amartha Mikro Fintek (Amartha) of their MSME partners. The research found that 82% of respondents are  confident in a better economy within the next six months. This figure was followed by the respondent’s increase in income of 37.5%.

According to money.kompas.com, this figure is far greater than the 2022 inflation rate which is between 5 percent. Chief Risk and Sustainability Officer Amartha Aria Widyanto said, with this increase in income, Amartha’s MSME partners have strong resilience in facing economic challenges.

“Amartha’s goal in conducting research on the impact of the global recession on grassroots MSMEs is to find out to what extent macroeconomic conditions affect the resilience of MSMEs,” explained Aria in a press release (20/12/2022).

He explained that this research is important for the company. Especially to choose strategic steps that support the business growth of MSME partners. This research examines the behavioral aspects of spending money amid rising prices of basic commodities. These reasons cause respondents to reduce spending.

However, reduced expenses are limited to non-essential things, such as for entertainment. Meanwhile, basic expenses, such as food, electricity costs, data packages, and children’s school fees, remain a top priority.

“In this way, MSME partners can still meet their basic needs while continuing to increase their business productivity,” he added.

This research was conducted on 240 Amartha partners in Amartha’s three operational areas. The three regions are spread across the islands of Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi.
