Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi cooperates with designers to create product innovations. This innovation is aimed at micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) products. He took this step so that MSMEs can create and develop their products.
“Alhamdulillah, MSMEs are now creating various innovations that are developing. So they have the opportunity to sell more products. Automatically they already understand the market. The government accompanies and must know what the current models (trends) of shoes and clothes are like,” he said (12/03/2023).
Reported by jawapos.com, Eri explained that MSMEs in Surabaya are growing rapidly. This cannot be separated from the role of the Surabaya City Government in providing assistance. Starting from assistance, to protection, assets or product works.
Currently the Surabaya City Government has partnered with 14 Surabaya MSME designers who have collaborated with 16 Surabaya batik makers. As a result, they created eight Surabaya batik motifs or what is known as Suroboyo Batik.
“I asked the designer to go along, the municipal government will pay for it later. An example of designing shoes is product design students. So that MSMEs learn, because they cannot, MSMEs will rise to a higher level if they don’t go through this (learning) process,” he explained.
Apart from that, Eri also asked all officials of the state civil apparatus (ASN) and employees in the Surabaya environment to use MSME products.
“If the turnover hasn’t moved massively, it’s our job to increase productivity by providing assistance. It’s not just theory, it has to be used and felt. If we feel comfortable then others must feel comfortable. Thank God, that’s what I asked our city government friends, we must be proud of products made in Indonesia,” said Eri.
